Bloomin Mae

Hi all! Thought I'd get this card finished since the image has been colored and waiting on me for a couple of weeks. You know, all the other seasons are easy to create for... but summer doesn't seem to be as easy for me. Obviously beach and swimming images work but what are the colors of summer exactly? I guess that it's basically bright and bold colors? Anyway... this is my attempt at a summer card. :)

Sentimental Sundays Inky Fingers

  

It's time for the new Sentimental Sundays challenge. We have a really fun one this week! We want to see you use unconventional stamping materials or techniques. I have to say, this one almost had me stumped. I had pretty much given up when it occurred to me that maybe I could use my Craft's Meow silhouette stamp on a book page. I have no idea how this popped into my crazy head, but I'm glad it did. I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out.

This is where the whole card started. I ripped a page out of an old dictionary. We don't use dictionaries anymore in my house... everything's online now! I stamped the image using Martha Stewart chalk inks and used a make-up sponge dipped in brown ink to "weather" the rest of the page. I waded that page up, ripped it... it's definitely weathered now. I did not ink over the word wonderful as it matched my sentiment and I thought it a good tie-in.

There's a lot going on here. There are two cork pieces that I stamped images on, another piece of the dictionary page with a butterfly stamped on it, seam binding that I dyed with ink to match the stamps, singed flowers, a stick pin that I made, a sentiment and some brads.

I distressed the inside as well. My fingers were extremely inky from dying the seam binding, so I used that to my advantage. I wadded up my paper for the interior and rubbed it with my inky fingers. I did the same with the flower made from more dictionary pages. The flower was simply torn into rough circles and wadded up.

All in all this project that I had worried about for days, ended up being a lot of fun and something that I am proud of. Moral: Don't be afraid to step out of your box. :)

Paul the Panda

Hi all! My card today is for The Stamp Fairy challenge which is a sketch. My daughter is all into panda's right now, so I've been searching blogland trying to find some. She is off to her first year of college in the fall so I am making some cards up ahead to send her while she's there. This is Panda Paul from The Stamp Fairy. There is such a nice set of this little guy. Makes me wish I had one of the filmstrip dies because this guy would be perfect for that.

 The inside is where my card gets interesting. That strip of Pandas you see... that is actually a magnetic bookmark. I cut a slit in the card at the top so that I could slide it into place.

 When you take it off, the sentiment is revealed. The bookmark folds over the page and is held together with a magnet at the bottom. This is really handy when you're reading because you can just clip it to another page until you are finished. No dropping it each time you turn the page (well, maybe that's just me, lol).  The sentiment is from Raindrop Echo Designs Get Well Soon Sentiments. I like this set because some of the sentiments are useful for other situations.

Feeling a Little Odd...

Hi all! Just wanted to share this little doll from Some Odd Girl. I love that name. It fits me, lol. I sometimes refer to myself as Gonzo from the Muppets because he was referred to as the blue weirdo. I made this card for my friend who I think can also relate. :)

This is Bloom May colored with ProMarkers (Cocoa, Cinnamon, Tan, Ivory, Blush, Magneta, Cerise, Mandarin, Pumpkin, Marsh Green). The sentiment on the front is from the Cutting Cafe's Everyday Greetings Set 1 and the papers are K & Company Carolyn Gavin Greenhouse paper.

The sentiment on the inside is from Raindrop Echo Designs Funny Friend Sentiments. When I saw this, I thought it was perfect for this particular friend.

Today my images are freebies from Papiersalat Digital Art. I thought they went perfectly with this  K & Company Carolyn Gavin Greenhouse paper. The pom pom trim is from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

I really stacked these up with dimensionals, which is hard to see in the pictures. They each go three layers above the base. The sentiment is from Raindrop Echo Designs Flowers In Bloom sentiments and I have added flatback rhinestones around the edge. The card is made to fit in a business sized envelope.
